In 2004, Orange County cities continued to rank among the safest cities in America. Of the top 25 cities, accorded "Safest Cities in America" by Morgan Quitno, two were in Orange County. Mission Viejo ranked as the safest city in California and the 4th safest in the nation. Other Orange County cities in the national top 25 list are Lake Forest (ranked second in California and 6th nationwide) and  Irvine (ranked fourth in California - behind Thousand Oaks - and 11th nationwide). – Morgan Quitno Safest City Awards
