The name Laguna (Spanish for "lake" or "lagoon") has been a popular choice for area communities due to the long time popularity of the adjacent community Laguna Beach (click here for a background of this name). Laguna Hills was subdivided and developed from a portion of the former Moulton Ranch (1874) and adopted the name Laguna Hills upon incorporation in 1987.
